Prices Peddling PDF Print E-mail

Prices peddling up and up are a ‘frowner’ for most shoppers. Gaining a bargain or cheaper option of the same product than the high priced one at your local store will naturally give a sense of satisfaction. The hunt was on hundreds of years ago for that great ‘catch’ to feed the family/tribe! Today it seems all demand out playing supply. Yes the population has tremendously grown but generally it’s easier to find a ‘catch’ these days. All it takes is a trip to a store. Once again that ‘trip’ if made via a vehicle costs and its fee alone curbs the bigger ‘catch’.

The stores stock enough to inhibit malnutrition and if you make better more-informed choices your smaller quality ‘catch’ scores more points. A bag of 500 grams brown or black lentils can cost under R10. Compare that with prices of other products. One can make about 5 meals from that lentil pack. Lentil soup, lentils as a side dish, lentil curry and let the creative cook inside you decide what else. Don’t grumble about the electricity bill now as lentils need to be cooked. You have to spend to make. In other words it pays to cook at home over eating out or ordering deliveries!

Now the electricity is off due to a black out. Fine, just dish out the precooked foods. Eating a meal at room temperature isn’t the end of a sumptuous meal. Brands are a factor. It really does pay to insist on quality but not a brand specifically. An old ancestor of ours hunting in the bush may have claimed his ‘kill’ was far superior as it was from the herd up north in the mountains. We tend to see the grass on the other side as greener. Try to buy locally grown/sourced products. It’s natural and should be cheaper. Eating from your habitat supports health, in you and your environment. Civilisations in cold climates have more fatty foods available and even plants can store more fats in colder temperatures. We have been spoilt and often recall times of excess consumption or discarding of left overs.

It’s prudent to match food preparation and quantity to appetite and sufficient need. Do you really need desert? Not really as your body shouldn’t be compelled to eat a big meal to have a tiny sugar delightful treat. Sticking away from deserts and having salad before a meal are two steps in accelerating weight reduction. Be healthy and active, apply yourself to the present. Check you adapt as survival entails adaptation. Any species willing to maintain a thriving existence has to adapt to its altering ambience. The hunt is on! Just stick to the intended ‘catch’. Don’t divert from that shopping list written a little earlier.
