Eggs |

Would you like one or two eggs for breakfast? Yes indeed, unless you have an egg allergy. For a while some people shunned eggs generally. Now it seems eggs are back in vogue. Eggs are often the essential ingredients in cakes and other bakery treats and even in some processed foods. ![]() Eggs are really nutritious foods. Children may be enticed to consume eggs but you may need patience. Boil eggs until hard. Then let them stand and cool down. A cold water rinse speeds up the cooling. Encourage your young one to paint (obviously with child friendly paints) the outer shell. The egg may need a face! Once the egg is painted and decorated it looks more appealing and fun when it’s time to crack it open. All the fun that went into its preparation should ensure a more appealing egg. If boiled eggs are ‘uggg’ despite all your patience, it may be better to try poached or scrambled. Fried eggs entail less enthusiasm, as we know they are bearers of more unhealthy fats. A raw egg is different in a way to a boiled or even fried one. How we prepare our foods can determine whether the food is healthier or not. Eggs are the only natural food source that has balanced optimum levels of the amino acids that are key components in our dietary protein. Yes, eggs are sources of cholesterol and that may partly be why they are shunned by some. Yet there’s more to it than that! Cholesterol is handled in our body by key ‘buses or taxis’ that shuttle it around. These ‘vehicles’ are called phospholipids and are helpful in keeping cholesterol from clogging up (like passengers at bus terminals / taxi ranks awaiting the late buses / taxis) blood vessels or forming some gall stones. We can make phospholipids and to do so, vitamin B6, vitamin B12 and folic acid are needed. Protein itself is needed as well. Sesame seeds, leafy vegetables, dairy foods and vitamin B Complex supplements are some beneficial steps to invest in. Frying foods always creates chemical reactions (unsaturated fats particularly) that results in harmful trans fats and other less healthy substances. It may be best and simplest to boil but eggs in general are good foods. Eggs that are free of hormones and antibiotics should be sought over the rest. Finally did you know that although eggs have cholesterol they also have lecithin? Lecithin is a phospholipid! It may be prudent to let eggs be in your fridge not just for the once off fashion appearances but rather like the dependable pair of jeans always in your cupboard. Egg on egg eating.
